Patrick Davey & the Ghosts / The Hounds Below / Trigger Fish / Hit Society $5
The rock trio Patrick Davy and The Ghosts hail from the broken city of
Detroit, MI. Patrick Davy (Guitar, Vocals) confesses his struggles and
experiences with uncanny poetic ability and guitar stylings, haunting
listeners' hearts and minds. Backed by Adam Padden (Bass Guitar) and
Will Shattuck (Drums), the two electrify audiences with rhythms strong
enough to compliment the passionate vocals and soaring guitar. Together,
the three allow audiences down the streets of their thoughts and
feelings, taking listeners on an emotional ride similar to that of
English rockers Led Zeppelin and Radiohead. Constantly changing tempo,
tone, and even unplugging their instruments for acoustic ballads,
Patrick Davy and The Ghosts put on a show few can match.

The Hounds Below, a new band formed by Jason
Stollsteimer formerly the front man of the Von Bondies, shine new light
on a classic sound. Focusing on the beauty rather than the volume of the
song, the band creates a melodic landscape that layers a lush, early
rock-and-roll vibe over spacey guitars and an atmospheric-sounding
organ. Bonding over a mutual appreciation of old and new music
alike—everything from Phoenix to Buddy Holly—the Hounds Below have a
sound that spans decades, yet is distinctively their own. Real Detroit
columnist Jeff Milo describes the Hounds’ style as “presenting a swathe
of moodier R&B, smoky soul, stately 50’s pop, and still maintaining
that dreamy atmospheric fuzz rock sheen.” With every reverberating
note, the band captures the remorse and poetry behind lost love. But
that’s not to say that all of their songs are lachrymose. A sizeable
proportion of upbeat, danceable numbers complete the sound and provide
for an energetic performance. Whether live or recorded, the Hounds Below
will captivate and haunt all who listen.

This powerhouse trio’s influences are good music, real life experiences,
politics and people. They would call themselves an experimental rock
band with a gritty edge, but their balanced blend of aggressive guitar,
explosive drums, and clean rhythmic bass come together beautifully to
create something that can’t be classified. When you listen to Trigger
Fish’s unique combination of dark lyrics, soulful melodies, and radical
yet emotional transitions, you really get to go along for the ride. It’s
an all around sensory experience.
